His mother, Carole Elizabeth was a substitute teacher and his father, Herbert James Brown was a construction worker. Brown had an interest in singing when he was of age 3 and saw performing his childhood idol James Brown in Boston. At age of 9, Brown made a singing group named New Edition with his childhood friends namely Ricky Bell, Corey Rackley, Michael Bivins, Travis Pettus. Later they became a quartet of Brown, Bell, Bivins, and Tresvant, on joining of Ralph Tresvant and leaving of Travis Pettus and Corey Rackley. They also included Ronnie DeVoe. They performed at different places in Boston and received a Maurice Starr’s label and released their debut album named Candy Girl. It became a million-seller. They together released a list of hit songs namely Mr. Telephone Man, Jealous Girl, and Cool It Now. Brown later left that group and started his solo career. He signed a contract with label MCA. In 1986, his debut album named King of Stage was released by the label. Brown worked with some of the popular R&B songwriters and producers including, Teddy Riley, Babyface, and Antonio L.A. Reid. In 1988, these producers released a solo album of Brown named Don’t Be Cruel. It launched five ten hits that charted on Billboard Hot 100 including the number-one single named My Prerogative. He received the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for his fourth song from his album named Every Little Step in 1990. His album Don’t Be Cruel lead Brown to win People’s Choice Award, Soul Train Music Award, and two American Music Awards. In 1992, Brown released his second album named Bobby. It included several top hits named Get Away, Humpin’ Around, and Good Enough. He received another Grammy Award for Humpin’ Around. In 1993, he received his third American Music Award. Brown also signed Murder Inc. Records. He released his fifth album named Masterpiece on June 5, 2012. Brown started his acting career with a debut appearance in Ghostbusters II in 1989. He also worked in several other movies namely Panther, A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Go For Broke, Gang of Roses, Two Can Play That Game and Nora’s Hair Salon.
